The Edit Gallery is thrilled to announce the opening of Lefki Savvidou’s newest solo exhibition, titled Thank You for Being With Us, as part of Limassol Art Walks. Known for her sharp, reflective approach, Savvidou turns her focus to an unlikely subject in this series: the plastic bag, a disowned poster-child of human evolution
Far from being a commentary on environmental issues, Thank You for Being with Us digs deeper into what it means to be human and the potential regrets we might face at the metaphorical checkout counter of life. Savvidou uses the plastic bag as a symbol of humanity’s duality—our ability to create and innovate, coupled with our tendency to deny responsibility for our creations. The plastic bag, once lauded for its convenience, now embodies both our achievements and our flaws.
Lefki Savvidou
Lefki Savvidou (b. 1990) is a Cypriot visual artist, illustrator, and writer. Her artistic practice is based on the study and continuous investigation of human relationships and the nuanced perceptions of life in the 21st century. Central to her work is the use of text, which she employs to create narratives and explore the intersection of individual experiences and collective consciousness. Starting from the everyday interactions and fleeting moments that define modern existence, her works develop a textual vocabulary that mirrors the complexities of contemporary life, unveiling hidden dimensions within the mundane. Savvidou holds a BA in Illustration from Middlesex University, London, and an MA in Creative Writing from University College Dublin.
Works of hers have been acquired by the State Gallery of Contemporary Cypriot Art.
