A Glitter Baptism
Mariandrie aims to re-contextualize the perception of gender stereotypes. Using raw materials such as unprimed canvas, denim, rope, and the burlap fabric, as well as with her particular use of color, she manages to present bold statements with socio-political and religious messages, crafted in delicate techniques.
Reimagining and reconstructing painting through fiber, the artist produces a new contemporary form. Composition and scale are carefully considered, as the works approach both contemporary form and modern narrative. Her work leads the viewers to re-examine the connection between concept and gender as well as push the boundaries of what is considered feminine and masculine.
